Well it’s been a while. With everything that’s been happening since we returned from Hay, I have not felt able to put pen to paper, so to speak.  The demise of Stevenage Land Registry has been like losing part of my family. I’ve known many of them longer than I’ve known Pete! I had originally planned to leave at the end of December, to coincide nicely with our trip to Australia in January 2011. But then the election, and consequently a new Government intervened with the Civil Service Compensation Scheme, and panic set in. To lose a substantial amount of redundancy was far too risky – it was of course designed to help civil servants, most of whom work in very specialised areas – to retrain with a new career. Ironically, it was a scheme introduced by Margaret Thatcher!!  Not many people realise this, they think we are a bunch of lazy so and so’s who drink far too much tea and all have gold-plated pensions – I won’t go on about it now, but it simply is not true. Read the facts on the PCS Union website if you have any doubts. So, when a window of opportunity presented itself, to leave by the end of July under the current scheme, I decided within 24 hours that I had to get out now. Oh the relief!! Well you’d think so wouldn’t you? That lasted for a few days until the Cabinet Office and our hapless HR section started to mess with our minds. Good communication should be easy – its common sense after all. To cut a long and painful story short, I finally escaped the clutches of the Civil Service at the end of July and I feel fantastic! Of course the last few days were hard. Many other “lifers” also left, and the witty yet poignant emails flew out, bringing a tear to the eye and a lump to the throat. So, then it was my turn. I am privileged to work with some truly lovely people, and to arrive at work on my last day with my desk decorated with streamers and balloons was just beautiful –  especially considering how many are leaving at the same time. A big thank you to you all.   I was overwhelmed with the cards, presents and good wishes from so many lovely people – my extended family. I will miss them all a great deal. Hopefully a few of us will stay in contact, thank goodness for mobiles and social networking, it’s a far easier thing to do these days.

So, the blog is up and running again. I have several writing ideas, and will be pursuing my love of photography too – who knows, I may be able to make a living from both of these one day. As for what is next – I need several more weeks to de-clutter my head and decide what to do when I grow up……

I wondered where your blog had got to. Been noticeably silent for a while!

I’ve still not tackled my “how am I feeling about leaving” post yet. Or at least, not my detailed one.
